Teatro alla Scala is one of the most famous theatres in the world. It is located at the back of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and is connected to Piazza della Scala, at the middle of which stands a statue of Leonardo da Vinci.
The first theatre at this site was burned down in 1776. Two years later, Teatro alla Scala was built here. During WWII, the theatre was bombed, resulting in the performance hall being damaged. After the war, the Italian government invested a lot of resources to renovate the theatre making it one of the most beautiful theatres in the world. The theatre appears simple and unadorned on the outside; the decoration on the inside is extremely luxury. It is known for its gilded arch and private boxes. The theater hosts many performances all the year round, including operas, ballets, concerts, etc.
