Buddhist Temple of Asokaramaya

Buddhist Temple of Asokaramaya is a famous Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka, located in the south of Colombo City. It was built in order to commemorate the time when the Indian Maurya Ashoka sent his son to Sri Lanka to promote Buddhism. It is glorious inside the temple. There are a variety of different statues of Buddha Sakyamuni, which is tall, alive and colorful with typical Indian art beauty. There is a Buddha altar in front of every Buddha statue for people to present the flowers. There are Buddha’s footprints which are covered by glass with patterns inside the temple. There is a Bodhi tree behind the temple which helps people connect the scene the Buddha was sitting under the Bodhi tree in the mind.
