Bahia Palace

Bahia Palace, located in Marrakech surrounded by many gardens and built in the late 19th century, was the biggest and most magnificent palace in Morocco at that time. The name “Bahia” means wisdom. Compared with other buildings of its contemporaries, Bahia Palace focused on presenting the architectural style of Islam and Morocco. It was built and designed by Si Moussa, who was grandvizier (prime minister) of Sudan, for private use. Unfortunately, the architectural design of it showed the aesthetic of the noveau riche, which is vulgar and rough. After all, Bahia Palace was not designed out of art of aesthetic purpose but grand volume, which resulted in its hasty design and mediocre details.
