Jemaa el-Fnaa Square

Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, located in the Medina of Marrakech, is not only the main square but also the market. The original name of Jemaa el-Fnaa Square is untraceable. Jemaa means “congregational council for mosque” in Arabic, which might refer to the destroyed mosque of Almoravid.“Fanâ or finâ” means death or yard, the space in front of the building. So Jemaa el-Fnaa probably means mosque in the end of the world or better explained by a big yard or square in the mosque ahead.
