Kenya became independent in 1963. In 1964, the Coryndon Museum was renamed the National Museum, and belongs to the Kenyan state-run museum system. Nairobi National Museum was previously closed for renovations and reopened in June, 2008. It has some temporary and permanent exhibitions, which make the museum more interesting and diverse. There is the snake park, botanic gardens and the educational pathway for nature and science in the square of the museum. In the service area, there are restaurants, stores and other attached facilities.
