Nanputuo Temple is a famous Buddhist temple in Southern Fujian. It is located in the front of the Wulao Peak the Chinese city of Xiamen. The surrounding scenery of the temple is extremely delightful with beautiful hills as its backdrop and a harbor in front of it. During the period from Five Dynasties and the beginning of Song Dynasty, there was a monk who built a simple cabin beside the hill in order to cultivate himself. It was extended in the Ming Dynasty and further renovated at the beginning of Qing Dynasty. At that time, its name was changed into Nanputuo.

In 1924, the local temple was changed into Taoist monasteries and the Buddhist College of Minnan was established in the temple the next year. Since then, many monks and Buddha came here frequently to get enlightenment. At that time, the temple was so prosperous and well-known at home and abroad.

After the foundation of China, the temple once declined but recovered later. Nowadays, new buildings and courtyards are in a row. The restored Fanyulin Temple is so glorious that hundreds of monks live there with respect and solemnity. The Buddhist College of Minnan is restored with the principle that teaching and learning benefit each other. With new temples emerging, the doctrine is increasingly popular and finally reaches its high at that time in history.

Wulao Peak is one of the eight wonderful landscapes known for its steep and mysterious peaks. There are lush trees and grass, different shapes of rare stones, deep caves and canyons and crystal clear springs as well. There are crook paths straight to the pavilion at the peak, looking from which waves are rippled and large ships and light yachts come and go quickly. Overlooking the new appearance of Xiamen Island, you will see green trees and high mansions. Looking down from its peak, Fan Yulin Palace is sometimes hidden and visible over the clouds as if you were a supernatural being in the attic of Penglai with endless joys.
