Located in the Xinglin Bay of Jimei District of Xiamen, Xiamen Horticulture Expo Garden was open officially on September 23, 2007. It is built especially for the 6th China International Garden & Flowers Exposition. The prominent feature is that it is built over the sea with a total area of 10.82 square kilometers among which the land area is 5.55 square kilometers. It reached the record level in the history of Garden Expo.
In the garden, there are nine islands distributed in order and numbers of gardens compete with each other. You can see hundreds of boats compete and so many fishes swimming underwater. It produces the distinctive landscape of “garden standing on the water and water flowing in the garden”. When you ramble in the garden, there is no noise of the vehicles and people but tranquility of the breeze, moon, birds and smell of flowers. It is another important city card of Xiamen.
This is a garden hugged by the water with delicate expositions, beautiful sights, harmonious ecology, cross-strait customs and sustainable development. The landscape of the islands in the Horticulture Expo Garden is an artificial one. The form of the island groups goes through filling in with the sand of Xinglin Bay and then supplementing over 3.5 million cubic meter sandy soil and planting soil for garden.
