Towers Temple

It can be said that Towers Temple is the symbolic building of Taiyuan City. It’s located in the south of Haozhuang Village, southeast of Taiyuan City. It was built in Emperor Wanli of Ming Dynasty with another name of “Yongzuo Temple”. The Character of “zuo” means begging for God’s bless. The temple faces north and consists of three parts: the front yard, middle yard and tower yard. The famous Towers Temple stands in the tower yard. Both towers are built with bricks and stones. The 13-storey towers are more than 50 meters high and were built under the supervision of Senior Monk Fodeng during the Ming Dynasty. The two towers are 60 meters apart with elegant decorations and clear outlines. Between the inner and outside walls of the towers are spiral ladders which reach to 11th storey. The whole view of Taiyuan can be enjoyed when standing on the top of the towers. Other buildings in this temple are Mahavira Hall, Three-saint Pavilion and Tablet Gallery. In the yard in front of Mahavira Hall are various plants: peony, clove etc. Many of them are rare species, such as Yaohuang (honored as the King of Peony), Purple wei (one species of Peony). When blossom season comes, the yard is full of beautiful flowers and emits a heavy perfume smell. Crossing the moon-door on the east side of the yard is Tablet Gallery where it exhibits many inscription calligraphy of many famous calligrapher, such as Wang Xizhi, Zhang Xu, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, Su Dongpo etc., it’s a great place to appreciate Chinese calligraphy works.

Transport: Buses, trams-based, 24-hour taxi can be seen everywhere in the city. For foreign tourists, it will be very important for foreign tourists to master the special tour line and transfer method. Bus fare in the urban area is 1.00 yuan, and it charges by section in the suburbs. The basic charge of taxi is 6 yuan for the first three kilometers, and 5 yuan/km for the exceeding.
