In Mount Victoria southwest of Wellington, there is an office which was used by Prime Minister Seddon (1893-1906). Seddon had an important influence on the political legislation of New Zealand. He has made New Zealand become the first country in the world in which women received the right to vote. Near Mount Victoria is the memorial for the English navigator, Captain James Cook. Cook had visited New Zealand 5 times between 1769 and 1777. Mount Victoria has become the filming location of the first film of Peter Jackson’s trilogy movie Lords of the Rings – Peter Jackson is a real local of Wellington. In the movie, the scene where we see the Hobbit hiding in the dense forest at the middle of the mountain escape from the trace of the Black Knights was filmed here.
