The railway of Barcelona subway is underground in the downtown area, and above ground in the suburban areas. Barcelona’s subway system is so convenient that all famous attractions can be reached by subway. Barcelona has 11 subway lines operated by two companies, among which Line 1 to Line 5 and Line 9 to Line 11 are operated by TMB; Line 6 to Line 8 is operated by FGC. The downtown of Barcelona is connected to nearby towns by FGC. For visiting scenic spots, you generally do not need to take the FGC. A red diamond light-box marked M placed lengthwise is the sign of subway entrance. Each subway line is marked by a different color respectively, so it is very easy to distinguish between the different lines.
