Born under the sign of a “new tourism”, the dialogue between China and Milan is growing fast, thanks to two important new promotional projects that came out in the last months.
Last September, Milan and CITS (China International Travel Service) signed in Beijing an important agreement: the partnership regards Milan’s presence in a wider project by CITS, named Italia Top Destination, which aims to promote in China quality tourism in Italy. “Quality” means no “hit and run” tourism, but a slower, more considerate and discriminating kind of tourism with the aim of increasing the authentic experiences for Chinese tourists visiting Milan, enjoying its attractions, lifestyle and its services. The agreement includes initiatives such as campaigns for pushing Milan on all CITS’ promotional media in China and through all its web channels, as well as the development of training initiatives for Chinese tour operators.

The second project has just been announced in Shanghai, jointly with the La Scala Opera Theatre and Inter Milan football club, noteworthy institutions showing the importance and the awareness of the event, who were both there last month: it was the launch of Milan’s official WeChat account, developed in partnership with the Milan Chamber of Commerce and Tencent. The account, in the name of YesMilano 探索米兰, the new promotional brand of the city, will provide all the relevant information on the city to Chinese tourists. Followers will have a digital space where they can explore Milan as a cultural destination, with all the practical information for the stay, and communicate directly with the Milanese brand, which will support them in organizing the travel.

The WeChat account shall be followed in the near future by a Mini Program which will be a great help for Chinese tourists who will be in Italy or Milan: the users shall better organize the visit according to their interests, choosing from a wide range of food, wine, cultural, sports or shopping trips, and integrating them with information on services, shops, restaurants, hidden gems and points of interest, all located through an interactive map.
