As the joint supporting unit of the forum, the WTCF held the forum themed “Smart Cities to Smart Tourism Destinations: Towards Wellness and Happiness”. It discussed such topics as "How tourism cities and smart tourism merge to change the tourist experience", "How smart tourism city transform into smart tourism destinations" and "How the transformation process will have a healthy impact on tourism".

The forum was lead by Chen Yining, an expert of the WTCF and an associate professor of the Tourism Management school and the school of Economics and Management of Beijing Jiaotong University. Shu Zhan,General Manager of Tencent Tourism and institutional member of the WTCF, gave the keynote speech. Vinicius Rumelz, Brazilian minister of tourism of Sao Paulo state, Fernando Amel, representative of the Buenos Aires Tourism Bureau, Jin Weidong, director of the Nanjing Culture and Tourism Bureau and Xu Chengzhong, director of the school of Science and Technology of Macau University attended the forum.

The Global Tourism Economy Forum is an economic forum sponsored by the social and cultural department of the Macao SAR government of China, with the World Tourism Organization UNWTO as the partner unit. After eight years, the forum has become an annual event with significant influence in the tourism industry. Additionally, over 10 tourism ministers and vice ministers from 9 countries, representatives of international organizations, and over 500 goJvernment, business and tourism industry members attended the forum.
