The Greater Boston area of the USA applied for joining the World Tourism Cities Federation (hereinafter the WTCF) days ago.

On 5 December 2013, Deputy Secretary-General of the WTCF Yan Han met with Patrick Mocaritolo, Chief of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau and Mr. Christopher Cook, Director of Boston Mayor’s office of Art, Tourism& Special Events, Activity Director of the Boston mayor’s office in Boston, USA. Yan Han introduced the mission, organization and resources of the WTCF. He also shared ideas on topics ranging from how to meet the needs of tourists and city members, build cooperation between the WTCF and enterprises to how to boost travel for education and medical treatment.

On behalf of the Greater Boston area, Patrick Mocaritolo expressed the wish of the area to host the Beijing Fragrant Hills Summit of the WTCF. He said that Greater Boston hoped to strengthen the ties with the WTCF in, among others, tourism resource promotion, training and city image promotion. Authorized by the mayor’s office, representing Greater Boston, Patrick Mocaritolo officially signed the document to join the federation, applying to being the 70th city member and the 112th member of the WTCF.

Boston sits along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the northeast of the U.S., the capital and the largest city of Massachusetts, and one of the oldest and culturally richest American cities. The Greater Boston area is the U.S.’ sixth and the world’s 12th city economy, clustering over 100 universities including Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
