【Introduction】：Every year in August HamletScenen presents the Shakespeare Festival, featuring a wealth of open-air theatre performances at the beautiful Kronborg Castle in Elsinore at the northern tip of Zealand.

Every year in August HamletScenen presents the Shakespeare Festival, featuring a wealth of open-air theatre performances at the beautiful Kronborg Castle in Elsinore at the northern tip of Zealand. In 2017 it runs from 1 to 23 August. The Shakespeare Festival is a place to experience spectacular, innovative Shakespeare performances in the open air on a late summer’s evening.

The productions are always staged by some of the most acclaimed theatre companies and theatre artists of our time. At Kronborg Castle the constantly changing Danish weather, screech of sea gulls and the glimmer of stars all unites art, cultural heritage and nature – guaranteeing each performance to be a magical experience. In august 2017 our new stage will be built over the moat and so will new audience podiums with 649 seats.

2017 will see the inauguration of HamletScenen’s new stage, constructed over the moat and with Kronborg Castle as a backdrop. Every evening, prior to a performance, you can enjoy a pre-ordered picnic on the Princess’s Bastion, enjoying stunning views right next to the stage area.
