On March 9, 2018, Mobike was honored with not one but two awards at the iF Design Awards – one of the most prestigious and largest design competitions in the world.
An iF DESIGN AWARD is a seal of excellence, a testimony of quality, and a challenge to the competition. Since its establishment in 1953, it has become one of the most influential international design awards. It is also known as one of the ‘three worldwide design awards’ with the Red Dot award in Germany and the IDEA award in the United States. It's often referred to as the Oscar's of design.
This year, 63 international judges reviewed 6402 exceptional products from 54 countries. In the selection process, two new generation Mobikes, the New Lite and Mobike 3.0, caught the judges attention and won awards in the product design category.
Mobike New Lite – simple, smooth and innovative
The New Lite stood out to the jury for its optimized and lightweight frame as well as the innovative technology it uses. This model was designed with inspiration from Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa, to not only make it a stylish bike but also an intuitive one that users can enjoy with minimal instruction. Not only does the New Lite resemble the recognizable Mobike logo, it is also drastically reduced in weight and has an exceptionally high level of safety and durability. With a weight of 15.5 kilograms, it is the lightest and easiest-to-handle bike on the bikesharing market with a frame that is 50% stronger than European standards.
Mobike 3.0 – ergonomic, flexible and comfortable
Our second submission, the Mobike 3.0, also convinced the judges. While this model resembles the classic Mobike model, it is also greatly reduced in weight. The new seat design features a pneumatic lift that allows for quicker and simpler seat height adjustments – a first in the industry. The new ergonomic design of the Mobike 3.0 makes it a lot more user friendly and greatly improves the riding experience.
These award-winning Mobikes will now be showcased permanently in the largest design exhibition on the web, the iF WORLD DESIGN GUIDE, and at the iF design exhibition in Hamburg HafenCity from March 10 until June 3, 2018, to an audience with a special interest in design and architecture.
With design and quality at our core we're excited to bring in a rejuvenated era of new mobility. Using smart technology and beautiful design to help us better enjoy our cities.
