Hong Kong Airlines has once again been recognised for its commitment in upholding outstanding safety standards in order to provide the safest travel experience to our passengers. The 2017/18 Airport Safety Recognition Scheme by the Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AA) saw the airline take home three individual awards: the Accident Prevention Measures Award – Fire Safety; the Accident Prevention Measures Award – Catering Safety; and the Good Safety Suggestion Award – Safety Night Walk with Management Team.
The Airport Safety Recognition Scheme is held annually by AA to recognise airport community members and frontline staff who have demonstrated exemplary safety performance during the past year. This in turn marked the fourth consecutive year that Hong Kong Airlines had received recognition from the Airport Authority.
The Accident Prevention Measures Award – Fire Safety was awarded to 16 staff members from different departments, in recognition of the Fire Safety Programme, which Hong Kong Airlines established back in 2015. In doing so, the airline’s designated Fire Safety Managers and Wardens are certified Fire Safety Ambassadors by the Fire Services Department in Hong Kong.
Next up was the Accident Prevention Measures Award – Catering Safety, which was awarded to three awardees from Corporate Safety Department (Ground Safety Team) and Service Delivery Department (Catering Team) who helped develop a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for Hong Kong Airlines’ catering service company, designed to reduce the load of meal carts when being transported onto the aircraft. Now, only one item is allowed to be placed on top of a service cart, while new trolleys that include protective guardrails have been introduced.
Finally, the Good Safety Suggestion Award went to two awardees from Corporate Safety Department (Ground Safety Team) after they represented the airline in coordinating with various contractors in bringing the monthly Safety Night Walk to several workplaces, including the check-in counters, boarding gates, ramps, baggage basement and cargo warehouse. In doing so, Hong Kong Airlines has proactively identified non-conformance issues and dedicated resources to implement effective rectifications and improvements accordingly.
“Hong Kong Airlines is honoured to once again be recognised at the Airport Safety Recognition Scheme. These awards by the Airport Authority are a validation to the continuous effort that we have invested into promoting a strong safety culture throughout our daily operations,” said Captain Alex Linhares, Director of Corporate Safety at Hong Kong Airlines.
