2018 was the most successful year to date for the Vienna Tourist Board. In 2018 Vienna recorded 16.5 million bednights (+6%), 7.5 million arrivals (+6%) and Vienna's accommodation establishments generated net room revenues calculated to date of 793 million euros (1-11/2018, +12%). “This clearly indicates that turnover for the entire year 2018 increased twice as much as bednights," reports Director of Tourism Norbert Kettner. The main impetus in 2018 came from Vienna's focus on Viennese Modernism, as well as the flourishing conference and congress industry. The city currently has direct flights from 136 different destinations in 65 countries. The Viennese hospitality sector has an accommodation capacity of about 66,000 hotel beds, with a room occupancy of around 78%.

94% of Viennese think tourism is good for the city

“Vienna's major asset is the positive attitude of the Viennese population towards tourism. According to our latest representative study, 94% of Viennese have a positive attitude towards tourism," explains Kettner. In 2018, 3,650 Viennese between the ages of 18 and 70 took part in an online survey. In 2018 Vienna was repeatedly singled out as the most livable city in the world: for the 9th time by the consulting firm Mercer and for the first time also by the Economist Intelligence Unit. The highlights in 2019 include the 150th anniversary of the Vienna State Opera in May as well as EuroPride in June.
