Air passenger throughput in China continued to recover in the first half of this year, said Shijie Wu, deputy director of Security Office in Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
In June, passenger throughput was 42.4% lower year-on-year, at 30.74 million, but up by 10.2 percentage points from the previous month, according to data released by CAAC on July 10. Since February, passenger throughput year-on-year has been bouncing back. The year-on-year increase of passenger throughput in June was 42.1 percentage points higher than that in February.
The numbers of passengers carried by domestic flights and international flights in June were 30.6 million and 140,000 respectively, which were about 64.7% and 2.3% of the level in the same period of last year.
In the first six months of 2020, total passenger throughput was about 150 million in China, among which 140 million passengers traveled on domestic flights and 8.52 million flew international flights, representing 48.6% and 23.5% respectively of the level in the same period of last year.
Mr. Wu said flight efficiency had also improved further. In June, the daily utilization rate of aircraft for the whole industry reached 6.2 hours, an increase of 0.8 hour compared with last month. Passenger load factor and freight load factor reached 70.3% and 67.6%, up by 1.9 and 1.5 percentage points.
In the first half of 2020, the daily utilization rate of aircraft for the whole industry was 5.2 hours. Passenger load factor and freight load factor were 68.6% and 64.3% respectively.
