Fire Sedan Chair Stilts Walking is a grand group dancing performance that is delightful to watch. Fire Sedan Chair Stilts Walking in Jiaozuo’s Qinyang could be traced back to the Tang and Song dynasties. During the Ming Dynasty the local traditions of stilts walking and sedan chair carrying were integrated and developed into sedan chair stilts walking by Zhu Zaiyu, a prince of the Ming Dynasty who was born in Qinyang.

After that, Zhu further improved the sedan chair stilts walking into fire sedan chair stilts walking by changing the common sedan chair into fire sedan chair made of yarn and decorated with candles. The top of sedan chairs were set with a Chinese dragon head, through which colorful fireworks spouted out. Zhu also worked to enrich this performance’s contents by adding folk dancing into it. And guanzi (guan instrument) and suona which were improved by Zhu served as accompaniments in the performance.

Qinyang Fire Sedan Chair Stilts Walking was listed on the extended list of the first batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritages.
