UnionPay International announced today that it has cooperated with International Cards Company (ICC) in issuing the first UnionPay card (card number starting with 62) in Jordan, where all the ATMs and POS terminals have accepted UnionPay cards. This cooperation offers Jordanian residents and enterprises new payment options while supporting the communication and exchanges between China and Jordan as well as other Asian countries and regions.
Now, all the local ATMs and POS terminals in Jordan accept UnionPay cards, meeting the payment demands of tourists visiting the country. With the increasing cooperation between China and Jordan in the fields of transportation, energy and infrastructure, ICC hopes to provide safe and convenient payment service for Jordanian residents visiting China with the help of UnionPay’s acceptance advantages in China and Asia-Pacific region.
The UnionPay cards issued this time are international payment cards that can be used in the UnionPay global network across 160 countries and regions. Cardholders are also entitled to exclusive UnionPay offers and privileges. The card is also Jordan’s first multi-currency (dinar, USD and RMB) chip card that is not only safer than magnetic stripe card but also more flexible for its multi-currency settlement function. Next, the two sides will issue UnionPay cards in other countries and regions in the Middle East.
In recent years, UnionPay International is accelerating the improvement of its acceptance network and promoting local card issuance in the major economies in the Middle East. So far, UnionPay has presence in 11 countries and regions in the region. In the UAE, all ATMs and POS terminals accept UnionPay cards and the card-issuing scale continues to grow; in Turkey, Lebanon and Qatar, several types of UnionPay card products have been issued.
