Photo Beijing 2016 Kicks off Week-long Event

Beijing's annual photography week Photo Beijing 2016 kicked off at the China Millennium Monument on Oct. 15th.

According to a press release sent to the Global Times, this year's photography week is taking "Images-Presence" as its theme. "Images" refers to the perfect match between the mind and technology, while "presence" represents the experience of photographers reflected in their photos.

Events at Photo Beijing include exhibitions, photography lectures, a photography market and other special activities.

At the opening ceremony, organizers also unveiled photography exhibition Uphold the Noble Spirit in Pursuit of the Chinese Dream, which commemorates the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 80th anniversary of the end of the Red Army's Long March.

Also unveiled were foreign group exhibition Recording and Reshaping as well as exhibitions A Road Emerging from the Depth of History, Dream Mirror • New Territories Exhibition 2016 and Wings of Fantasy.

Wings of Fantasy - curated by Rose Rande, a renowned picture editor and the director of the Photography Department for German magazine Geography - is this year's main exhibition.

The exhibition sees eight photographers from around the world mix fantasy and reality as they present current events and social issues through conceptual photography, a type of photography whose purpose, according to Rande, is to express thoughts.
