Best Wedding Award: Sanya Is 1 of Top 20 World Destinations

The Best Wedding Award 2017 was held in Beijing on January 9, 2018. The event was hosted by Baidai Trip, a travel brand developed by people.cn and the National Humanity History magazine.

During the award ceremony, Sanya was awarded one of the “Top 20 Most Beautiful Wedding Destinations in the World”, along with other 19 wedding destinations in the world, they are: Reunion Island, France; Rome, Italy; Cinque Terre, Italy; Tahiti, Italy; Seychelles, Italy; Whitsunday Islands, Australia; California, USA; Fiji Islands; Obidos, Portugal; Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand; Phuket Island, Thailand; Guam, USA; Mauritius; Pangkor Island, Malaysia; Hokkaido, Japan; Paris, France; Bali, Indonesia; The Maldives; and Santorini, Greece. Sanya is the only city in China on the list.

Sanya is on its way to becoming a world-class wedding and honeymoon destination island. As the first city in China to deploy a wedding destination marketing strategy, Sanya will continue to integrate and give full play to its wedding tourism resources, it will offer more featured wedding services and will continue to enrich its wedding tourism products.

According to incomplete statistics, in 2017, 2,400 wedding ceremonies were held in Sanya. The city received some 320,000 couples who had their wedding photographs taken in the city, and over 200,000 couples who visited Sanya on their honeymoons, generating tourism consumption of more than 9 billion yuan.

In July 2017, Sanya successfully hosted the 2017 Sanya Global Wedding and Honeymoon Island Forum (GWHI Forum). Nearly 200 overseas representatives from the world’s 20 leading wedding and honeymoon island countries and regions gathered in Sanya to share experiences and exchange ideas on the development of the global wedding tourism industry. Delegations were from China (Sanya and Taiwan), Indonesia (Bali), Malaysia, the Cook Islands, Mauritius, Spain (Balearic Islands), Thailand (Phuket and Koh Samui), Maldives, Japan, Fiji, Seychelles, New Zealand, South Korea, the United States (Saipan and Guam), the Philippines (Boracay), Australia and Tahiti.
