Tourists Flock to Sanya for Dragon Boat Festival, Spend RMB489m

Sanya received a total of 132,600 visitors during the three-day 2018 Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 16th to 18th, up 2.99 percent year-on-year. Tourism revenue during the holiday reached RMB 489 million, a year-on-year increase of 3.8 percent, according to statistics from the Sanya Tourism Development Commission.

Tourist spending

Per-capita consumption by overnight visitors was RMB 1,502.95 per day during the holiday, and per-capita consumption by one-day visitors reached RMB 514.21.

Tourist arrivals at eight scenic spots

Sanya’s eight major scenic spots received 150,800 visitors (including local residents) during the holiday period, a year-on-year decrease of 5.89 percent. Statistics for the eight spots are as follows:

Nanshan Cultural Tourism Zone received 29,800 visitors;

Dongtian Park received 6,500 visitors;

Wuzhizhou Island received 17,700 visitors;

Tianya Haijiao Scenic Spot received 19,500 visitors;

Yalong Bay Tropical Forest Park received 14,800 visitors;

West Island received 5,700 visitors;

Luhuitou Park received 5,900 visitors;

Sanya Romance Park received 50,900 visitors.

Hotel room occupancy rate

The hotel room occupancy rate across the city averaged 62.67 percent, a year-on-year increase of 0.71 percent (accounting for the fact that the number of hotel rooms across the city has increased 1.72 percent year-on-year).

The average hotel room rates and average hotel occupancy rates in four major bays and the downtown area:

Yalong Bay (RMB 1,130; 74.84 percent)

Haitang Bay (RMB 916; 72.29 percent)

Sanya Bay (RMB 393; 57.61 percent)

Dadonghai (RMB 435; 56.97 percent)

Downtown area (RMB 266; 50.88 percent)

Air & rail passenger throughput

During the holiday, the city handled 248,600 passengers, an increase of 3.49 percent year on year. The Sanya Railway Station received 104,600 passengers. And the Sanya Phoenix International Airport handled 928 aircraft movements from June 15th to 17th, 2018.

Domestic and int’l tourist arrivals

The top five source provinces or cities for domestic visitors to Sanya were Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Jiangsu.

As for tourist arrivals from overseas countries and regions, the top five sources were Russia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Kazakhstan.

Tourist arrivals at rural attractions

Sanya’s major rural attractions received 13,500 visitors during the holiday period. Statistics for the eight spots are as follows:

Haitang Bay Paddy Field Park received 1,300 visitors;

Zhongliao Village received 6,800 visitors;

Yalong Bay International Rose Valley received 4,200 visitors;

Baolong Forest Park received 400 visitors.
