Tourist arrivals in Morocco up 6.4 pct in first 8 months

Nearly 9.3 million tourists visited Morocco in the first eight months of 2019, up 6.4 percent year on year, according to statistics released by the Moroccan Tourism Observatory on Tuesday.

The number of foreign tourists hiked by 8.7 percent, while the arrivals of Moroccans living abroad increased by 4 percent between January and August, the statistics showed.

The growth was mainly driven by the continuous increase of visits from traditional European markets.

Morocco's top tourist destinations Marrakech and Agadir posted increases of 8 percent and 2 percent, respectively, said the observatory.
