Starting Apr 1, The National Museum of Australia will offer three new tourism experiences including hot air balloon tours over its compounds and private tours, as part of an initiative to promote the cultural allures of holidaying Down Under.
Visitors can hop on a hot air balloon ride over the museum’s surroundings, taking an exclusive museum tour with a curator before opening hours, and then proceed for a champagne breakfast on site overlooking the lake. All private transfers are included.
Or they could tour the Museum’s ‘off-display’ galleries, going behind-the-scenes to look at the site’s storage facilities. Lunch and private transfers are included.
History buffs will especially enjoy their tour led by an expert, exploring the Museum’s most iconic collections such as Australia’s dinosaurs, Phar-lap’s heart, the Enterprise paddle steamer and Holden prototype to name a few, before moving out to the café deck for beer and food.
These experiences are offered via Cultural Attractions of Australia – one of the arms under Tourism Australia’s Signature Experiences programme. Through their travel trade marketing channels, domestic and international tourists will be able to choose from a collection of experiences offered by Australia’s various cultural institutions, such as The National Museum of Australia.
“We are delighted to welcome the National Museum of Australia as one of Cultural Attractions of Australia’s newest members. The calibre of this attraction, as well as its experiences, are in every way befitting of CAOA’s objective of showcasing the best of our cultural offering to the world,” said Jennifer Ganske, Cultural Attractions of Australia’s chair.
Adds National Museum Director, Dr Mathew Trinca, “Tourism is a key industry for the Canberra economy and the museum is pleased to be a member of this innovative initiative which puts the cultural sector at the heart of the visitor experience and showcases Australia’s unique culture and history”.
