On the morning of September 18, representatives from The Travel Channel and WTCF We-media interviewed Mr. Jafif Andres, Mayor of Punta del Este, Uruguay. Mr. Andres introduced the travel resources of Punta del Este and expressed his expectation of the 2016 Chongqing Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit.
Mr. Andres said, “Punta del Este is a rarely known city to most Chinese people because it is far away in South America with flight time of more than 30 hours. However, Punta del Este is an excellent tourist attraction.” The tourists traveling to Punta del Este are mainly from South America due to the short distance to most other South American countries. But more Chinese tourists are welcome to visit Punta del Este in the future, said Mr. Andres.
Mr. Andres, who had been to China in the past, gave China and Chongqing many compliments. He said that China is a high potential country and we should learn from and communicate with China. That’s why he came to this summit. Mr. Jafif Andres hopes to further develop and market Punta del Este in the Chinese tourism market because tourism is the 100 percent pillar industry of Punta del Este. “This year in February, we had the Chinese New Year celebration in Montevideo, and it is said that next year the celebration will be in Punta del Este. It is good to see that we are getting closer to China.”
