Church of Agios Dimitrios

The great church built in the 5th century AD was dedicated to the ‘stratēlatē’ (military leader) Agios Dimitrios, a patron saint who protected the city. Dimitrios was martyred in 303 AD when he came here. The site of his martyrdom, a catacomb, has been preserved till this day.
