Penang Starwalk enters records book

GEORGE TOWN: Star Media Group Bhd is now in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for organising the “Largest Participation In A Fun Walk Event” to mark the 40th edition of Penang Starwalk 2017.

Star Media Group regional operations general manager (north) Simone Liong said this gave recognition of the support from Penangites, and great team spirit among the group’s employees.

“Penang Starwalk 2017 would not have been successful without the support of the people of Penang, and contribution from our sponsors and partners.

“From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank all of you for sharing this proud milestone with us,” she said after the MBOR certificate presentation ceremony at the Star Northern Hub in Bayan Lepas yesterday.

“It is the first year, the event was held in Gurney Paragon Mall with a participation of 20,855 walkers.

“In the past, it was held at other venues such as the Esplanade, Penang International Sports Arena (now Spice) and Penang Times Square.

“Starwalk holds the distinction of being perhaps the oldest initiative by Star Media Group, one that is still alive and well today.”

Liong added that over the years, Starwalk had grown to become an eagerly anticipated annual event for Malaysians.

The certificate was presented by MBOR chief operating officer Christopher Wong to Liong.

The 7km non-competitive Penang Starwalk 2017 was flagged off from Gurney Paragon Mall at 7am on Sept 10.

The annual walk is jointly organised by Star Media Group and the Penang Amateur Athletic Association.
