Royal Caribbean International said its fifth ship in the Oasis class will sail from China, marking the first time one of the behemoth vessels will be homeported in Asia.
The ship will be called Wonder of the Seas. The announcement was made by Royal Caribbean president Michael Bayley at a conference in Shanghai.
"Royal Caribbean is known for its innovation and constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and an Oasis-class ship in China is proof of that," Bayley said.
The other four 5,400-passenger Oasis ships are currently sailing from Florida’s three big ports in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and at Cape Canaveral.
The Wonder of the Seas is planned for delivery in 2021. It will sail from Shanghai with itineraries to be announced at a later date.
