The Buenos Aires City Tourist Board's Department of Promotion took part in the 2018 annual conference of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix, USA. The event, which takes place in a different city each year, includes a space for networking and business meetings in which active members of the association meet with destinations and tourism service providers.
The USTOA was founded in 1972 by a small group of tour operators concerned with finding a voice that would protect the rights of travellers and the interests of tour operators. Today the association has more than 60 active members that together have a purchasing power of around 19 billion dollars in tourism packages - 26% more than in 2017 - and moves around 9 million travellers per year. Its more than 500 associate members include tourism destinations around the world as well as hotels, inbound operators, specialist press, airports, car hire companies and travel insurance companies.
The city tourist board held 25 meetings with member tour operators that offer trips to Latin America and presented Buenos Aires' attractions, activities and experiences, and the digital tools available for visitors.
Representing the city was Fernando Amer, operations manager for international markets.
