Moscow became the first Russian city to have an official account on the Chinese social network, Wechat and Weibo. The official accounts were launched by the Moscow City Tourism Committee in conjunction with the ANO Project Office for Moscow Tourism and Hospitality Development as part of a promotion in the Asian region.
DiscoverMoscow:
The accounts are aimed primarily at individual tourists from China who want to plan their trips. However, the published information will provide assistance and guidance for anyone planning to visit Moscow.
Official accounts are a multi-format tool for promoting Moscow and its recognition for different publics. WeChat (探索莫斯科旅游) and Weibo (探索莫斯科) users will be able to learn about the historical and cultural heritage of the city, the modern life of Muscovites, as well as the current events.
Publications on the WeChat channel will appear regularly. Each of them, in a manner, most familiar to the audience, will provide advice for different stages of travelling, from planning (visas, accommodation, events) to spending time, eating and shopping, for those who have already arrived in the Russian capital. Practical tips will help the tourists choose an exhibition to visit, a place to eat, the easiest way to get to the desired destination, and many more.
The first publication in the Chinese networks has provided information about the celebration of City Day in Moscow, an eventful programme that captivated the Muscovites and tourists during September 7th and 8th when the capital celebrated its 872nd anniversary. Besides, Chinese users will now be able to learn about the sights of Moscow, such as the Krutitsy Metochion, the Hermitage Garden, and the Central Children's Store, as well as about modern points of attraction, including Zaryadye Park, the Flacon Design Factory and many more.
Weibo content will include information about Moscow and its life, as well as interesting facts about the capital, legends, and practical tips.
By developing the accounts, Moscow is creating an opportunity for travelers from China to obtain information about the tourist opportunities of the city via the conventional information channels.
Tourists from China hold leading positions among visitors to Moscow. The number of tourists from China in 2018, including both individual and group travelers, increased by more than 20 % and amounted to 803.6 thousand people.
