The 2018 World Tourism Cities Federation Qingdao Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit kicked off in member city Qingdao in Shandong province on September 7th, 2018.
Led by Er Dong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sanya Municipal Committee and Mayor of the Sanya Municipal Government, a Sanya delegation composed of representatives from Sanya governmental departments and tourism-related enterprises attended the summit, with the aim of enhancing awareness and heightening the reputation of Sanya among world tourism cities.
The summit, themed “Orient Industry Trends, Brand Tourism Cities,” attracted about 400 delegates from 58 countries and 106 member cities. More than 50 national tourism ministers and tourism city mayors were also present.
The summit consisted of eight main events: the Opening Ceremony and Keynote Speech, the WTCF Council Meeting, a Summit Forum, a Tourism Market Promotion Conference, a Tourism Trade Fair, a World Tourism Cities Investment and Financing Conference, and other exhibition and subcommittee events.
At this year’s event, Sanya engaged in efficient dialogue and strategic cooperative communication with the aim of showing off its rich tourism resources, facilitating the construction of Hainan as China’s Free Trade Zone (Port), building Sanya into an international tourism consumption center, and increasing the city’s influence between and among cities and institutions.
During this year’s summit, Sanya set up four exhibition booths that together highlighted the city’s themed tourism products including marine tourism, wedding and honeymoon tourism, tropical rainforest tourism, and coastal vacation tourism. Events and activities including tourism trade, an investment fair, and tourism promotion meetings were held to facilitate better communication and collaboration among members; those events and activities helped showcase Sanya’s innovative tourism products, and helped the city’s representatives explore new market potential for the city.
Fan Mu, Director of the Sanya Tourism Development Commission, stated that in the time since Sanya became a member city of the World Tourism Cities Federation in 2014, the city has established collaborative relationships with all other member cities, effectively promoting the development of Sanya’s tourism industry.
At the World Tourism Cities Investment and Financing Conference section, Xu Zhenling, Vice Mayor of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, stated that in recent years Sanya has worked to promote the transformation and upgrading of its tourism industry, with the aim of creating a better environment for businessmen and enterprises, and to further advance innovation in the city’s tourism sector.
