Fangshan Leaning Tower
Ding Lin Temple Tower
The mountain in Jiangning district in Nanjing, is called Fangshan Leaning Tower. Built in 1173 and being 14.5 meters high, it is a seven-storey and pavilion-style brick tower with eight sides consytructed in a wood-like structure.
The first floor is a little bit higher than others, whose sides are 3.45 meters in diameter and 1.46 meters in length. It’s square in shape on the insides of the first and second floor while cylinder-shaped on the insides of other floors. A wooden shelf has been set on the fifth floor to support the tower bar.
On the first floor, only the south side is open with a Xu Mi Pedestal in the center, and there are niches for images of Buddha on the other three sides. Four sides are open on the other floors. The tower is made of a wood-like square brick column and Dou Gong, a system of brackets inserted between the top of a column and a crossbeam.
