Main Street Café, Cititel Penang’s lobby level coffee house, has just launched its revamped menu. Although old favourites like their Chicken Chop and Hokkien Mee are still available, certain items are now marked with symbols to indicate whether they are Chef’s Signature, Vegetarian, or Deliciously Balanced dishes. The latter is a new category specially designed to encourage people to eat healthily, and they’ve even listed the food item and its nutrients down so that you’re aware of what you’re eating.
“The concept is to “Eat, Drink and be Healthy”,” explained Amir Hisham, Food & Beverage Manager whose brainchild it was. “Our balanced, nutrient-rich dishes have been prepared using only the finest and freshest ingredients. If you don’t have time to cook healthily at home, come and eat here!”
Executive Sous Chef Chef Lim Teng Kooi, whose job it was to execute the idea, has used his 15 years of experience to come up with a selection of international and Asian dishes which he’s tweaked to give it that healthy tag. “It boils down to food synergy: having a balanced diet,” he said. “Certain foods are more nutritious when paired together, so it is important to know what the right combinations are in order to maximise the benefits to the body.”
