The museum building is an architectural monument of XIX century. It was established by decree of the Minsk city executive committee. The basis of the museum's collection are archaeological excavations, that were laid in Minsk (XI-XIX centuries). The scientific development of stationary displays of "Minsk Site of ancient castle" (pr. Pobediteley, 2), of manor life in Loshitsa park complex (pr. Chizhevsky, 8) and of art gallery named after M.A.Savitski (pl. Svobody, 15) are carried out.

In addition to traditional forms of work, the museum implemented several art projects: weekend concerts, conferences, creative actions, thematic exhibitions, including international ones.
