Independence Square is a part of the main street through the center of Minsk - the prospect Nezalzhnasci (Independence Boulevard). The place is known from the end of 19th century. Some years ago it was called Lenin's Square. The oldest building in the square is famous "Red church" - Roman-Catholic church of Saint Simeon and Elena, also you can find there the luxurious hotel “Minsk” and the main post of Minsk. Still, several glass domes are dominate through entire square. Those are the windows for huge shopping center under the square. On the top of this dome are famous "Three storks".
In summer and spring during warm days the square is usually quite crowded of people walking around or just sitting on benches, among pretty flowers and an overall nice atmosphere. During cold days, instead, it can be quite a spectral place. At night it's all lightened and very marvelous.
