Independence Square
We highly recommend to visit Independence Square on the weekends and holidays. This time in summer on pedestrian street you will get an awesome opportunity to watch a street performance. It creates a marvelous atmosphere around.
Independence Square is a part of the main street in the center of Minsk - the prospect Nezalezhnasti (Independence Boulevard). The place has been known since the end of 19th century. Some years ago it was called Lenin's Square. The oldest building on the square is famous "Red church" - Roman-Catholic church of Saint Simeon and Elena, also there you can find luxurious hotel "Minsk" and the main post of Minsk. Still, several glass domes are located through entire square. Those are the windows for huge shopping center under the square. On the top of this dome are famous "Three storks”.
During warm spring and summer days the square is usually overcrowded with people walking around or just sitting on benches. During cold days it may be quite a quiet place. At night it's all lightened and very marvelous.
