The National Library of Belarus
The National Library of Belarus is a particularly valuable object of the cultural heritage of the Belarusian nation. Its mission is to collect, preserve and make available a universal collection of documents that reflects the knowledge of humankind and is related primarily to Belarus and its national interests. Scientists did not believe that such a design was possible and began to theoretically and mathematically ruin it even before the construction. Belarus did not have experience in making similar calculations.
The National Library of Belarus was founded in 1922. The current 72- meter tall building was completed in summer 2006 and consists of 22 stores. It was designed in the form of a diamond. The Library is situated in a green park about 3 km northeast of Minsk's city centre. The nearest metro stop is "Moskovskaya", from where it is still a 5-10 minutes' walk to the east. On the top of the building is an open-air observation pad offering superb views over the city (daily 1200-2230). Make sure you don't go there on a foggy day.
