MUDEC – Via Tortona, 56 - Milan
MUDEC, the Museum of Cultures, will become the latest addition to the museum landscape in Milan; an interdisciplinary centre dedicated to the various testimonies and cultures of the world. It has been established on the industrial site of the former Ansaldo manufacturing works, in Zona Tortona; MUDEC reinterprets the spaces that it fits into with square-shaped forms coated with zinc and with a glass structure - illuminated 24/7 - that geometrically "breaks” the building that hosts it.
The new space is characterized by an open plan organic central hall which generates an internal courtyard, a covered piazza that is a meeting place between cultures and the community.
The interior of the building is allocated to different spaces distributed over 17,000 square metres and offers visitors a variety of cultural activities and services; the Museum’s permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, an auditorium; Mudec Bistrot, Mudec Design Store, Mudec Club restaurant, plus, lecture rooms, the Mudec Junior area and parking spaces.
