At Milano’s PAC – Pavilion of Contemporary Art
Jing Shen. New Painting from China - from July 10 to September 6, 2015.
An exhibition focusing on the relationship painting keeps with other languages through an utterly original point of view that analyzes the emergence of themes and modes of classical Chinese art in the work of 20 artists from three different generations.
With a very new perspective, the exhibition argues that Classical Chinese art already included in itself all the components and forms typical of Chinese contemporary art. Dialogue with the western world and with other cultures enriches this exchange between past and present, but does not substitute it.
Jing Shen (精神), that is “interior strength”, but also “awareness of the act”: the moment which transforms a lifelong preparation in a perfect artistic gesture. Pictures, installations, performances, rituals, sculptures and videos analyze the peculiarity of the pictorial gesture within Chinese culture and the tensions between tradition and international art, giving birth to a new interpretative canon for Chinese contemporary art.
