The Summer Shakespeare Festival

The Summer Shakespeare Festival is the oldest and biggest open-air festival in Europe presenting works by William Shakespeare. This year foreign visitors and all those who want to enjoy the original Shakespeare language can visit MEASURE FOR MEASURE performance. The festival lasts from the end of June to the beginning of September and takes place on the open scenes in Prague. The opening of the festival was initiated by President Václav Havel.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Prague Castle opened to artists to attract the public. The first Shakespeare performance was introduced in 1990, and since 1998, the festival has been held regularly.
