Kanas is the best tourism destination of Altay. Kanas originates from Mongol, meaning the beautiful and mysterious place. Kanas Scenic Zone borders with Kazakstan and Russia in the north and Mongolia in the east and covers an area of 10,000 m2. It includes one National Nature Reserve, one national geological park and two national forest parks. The most famous spot is Kanas Lake.

Kanas Lake was formed around 200,000 years ago during the Quaternary period as a result of glacier movement. It is the deepest mountain freshwater lake of China and the headstream of Burqin River, the biggest tributary of Irtysh River.

There are majestic glacier, peaceful water, wide prairie and deep forests here. Numerous rare animals and plants flourish here. It is called Switzerland in the east and heaven of photographers.
