The stone village - Xijingyu

There is a stone village named Xijingyu village, located in Jixian, Tianjin. This village located behind the famous historic mountain - Fujun Mountain. Xijingyu village was built along the hillside near the bottom, layer by layer, well-arranged like a castle from the outside and the inside is like a maze. It is called "the stone village," because in the village houses, streets and mills are all constructed with stone. It was formed during the Qing Dynasty and given the named Xijingyu because of the fact that it’s surrounded by mountains; the feeling can be described as “living in a well.” The village is built upon rocky mountains with the surrounding geological rocks dating back to over 800 million years ago. Distinctive shale and dolomite are evident everywhere around the village. The natural environment here is beautiful with many fascinating attractions. The air, mountains, and people perfectly show the cultural connotation in this village.

Xijingyu is in the north of Jixian and contained by the Ancient World National Geological Park Reserve. This is an ideal place for relaxation. The distinctive features here are the marvelous stone-made attractions. The houses here are made of stone, so is the road. About 150 families live here for many generations. For hundreds of years, the people here enjoy the life of leisure, although they are separated only by a mountain from the busy world. Except for the doors and windows, the other parts of their houses are made of stone. The village is like a stone castle and this is a truly stone village.

They build stone dams, plant trees and vegetables, build houses beside the hill, and lead joyful lives. After years of work, they succeeded in making the village become to a famous tourism destination. The terraced fields and dams, cliffs and gullies form amazing scenery.
