Now in its seventh year, The San Francisco Giant Race Presented by Blueprint for Athletes has quickly become a running tradition alongside the city's other signature races: the Bay to Breakers 12K, the San Francisco Marathon, and the Bridge to Bridge 12K. In fact, runners who register for and complete any official distance at all four events in 2016 are eligible to win a San Francisco Originals prize.
Participants and non-runners alike can enjoy this annual event by attending the Giant Race Expo, where live music, entertainment and food will be on offer alongside vendor booths inside AT&T Park.
If you are planning to run, here are some pertinent facts to prepare:
The San Francisco Giant Race
When: Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016 (note: the Kids Race is on Saturday, Sept. 10)
What: Half Marathon and 10k (7 a.m.), 5k (10:50 a.m.), and Kids Race and Family Relay (noon on Saturday, Sept. 10)
Where: The half marathon and 10K start and end at AT&T Park in the Mission Bay neighborhood
The Course: The half marathon takes runners from Mission Bay to The Embarcadero, Fisherman's Wharf, Fort Mason, the Presidio and Fort Point and back, before finishing on the field at AT&T Park.
To Register: Please visit The Giant Race online by Sept. 8 to register. Note: There is no race day packet pickup or registration. To receive packet mailing, you must have registered by July 27. Those not opting for packet mailing MUST attend the Expo to pick up the runner's packet.
Expo: Friday, Sept. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept.10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at AT&T Park
Race Day Parking: AT&T Ballpark lots will be reserved for pre-paid passes only, and no cash will be accepted onsite. Pre-paid passes will be available for purchase during registration online. Metered parking is available surrounding AT&T Park.
More: All San Francisco Giant Race event registrants will receive the fifth annual Giant Race Runner Bobblehead - this year's is Brandon Crawford - and are eligible for a Special Event item at the Runners Night game on Monday, Sept. 12 vs. the San Diego Padres. Tickets for the Runners Night game can be purchased here. In addition, runners can help the Giant Race organizers give back to the community byfundraising for Project Open Hand, which delivers needed food to critically ill neighbors and seniors.
