The Asian Winter Games is an international multi-sport winter event organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) about every four years. Since the first Asian Winter Games were held in Sapporo (7 countries and regions participated) in 1986, the Games have expanded in scale, largely driven by the rising popularity of winter sports in Asia. The 2017 Sapporo Asian Winter Games marks the 8th Asian Winter Games and will welcome athletes from around 30 countries and regions. Events will include such sports as skiing, ice skating, biathlon, ice hockey and curling. Athletes from across Asia will gather in Sapporo* to compete against one another. We invite you to visit Sapporo during the games because the venues for skiing and other sports are situated close to the city and can easily be accessed by public transportation from downtown.
