Washington Spring: A Season of Fairy Tales

As the annual cherry blossom season arrives, the pink petals dancing in the air enchant every one of us. If you think cherry blossoms are exclusively in Japan, you are wrong. In the continent of North America, there is also an ideal city for you to admire these amazing flowers. It is Washington.

Back in 1912, when the then Mayor of Tokyo visited Washington, he brought with him 6,000 cherry blossoms trees to America, with New York and Washington receiving 3,000 respectively. More than 100 years have passed, and these trees are now welcoming the spring with flourishing blossoms. These cherry blossom trees in Washington stand like angels circling around the Tidal Basin. These blossoms are reflected off the water in the lake, and it makes these blossoms even more mesmerizing.

One of the best places to admire cherry blossoms is the Tomas Jefferson Memorial, which is an ancient Gothic building and looks ivory-white and historical. It is solemn and sacred. You may see half of the cherry blossom trees that circle around the lake from here, and this is enchanting.

Every March and April, the largest celebration that welcomes the coming of spring is the National Cherry Blossom Festival held in Washington. During the festival, the cherry blossom festival parade is the climax. During the day, usually tens of thousands of people wearing costumes participate in the largest spring pageant of Washington, and many film stars, sports figures, important politicians and other celebrities will also come to celebrate the festival. The performances at the parade come from all around the United States, such as the wonderful cheerleaders’ performances from Harvard or other universities, Police Cars, and other kinds of performances. In addition, the gorgeous Cherry Blossom Princess will also be present during the festival.
