It is reported that when tourists visit Qixiasha Mountain, not only can they see the beautiful red leaves but also the once-a-year mysterious light, which will last for a week from November 22.
The Mysterious Light Reappears
Since the first time the legendary "mysterious light” appeared on November 22, 2009, in Sansheng Temple, thousands of Buddha rock, Qixiashan Mountain, it has been reappearing in Sansheng Palace every year thereafter.
According to the scenic staff, on the afternoon of November 21, many tourists gathered at Sansheng Temple and were waiting for the mysterious phenomenon. The weather then was not sunny. But in the afternoon, the sun showed up. At about 3:15 pm or so, with the excited sound from the crowd, everyone's eyes focused straight toward the face of the Buddha, which appeared to have a slender light spot, projected from elsewhere, shining on the face of the Buddha. As time passed, the spot moved with a multitude of shapes and sizes. At 3:40, the spot stopped between the eyebrows, through which the colorful light came out from. At 3:45, the spot suddenly disappeared. The whole process lasted for nearly half an hour.
According to reports, Sansheng Temple is a National key cultural relic protection unit. Every year from Nov 22, for about 4 or 5 days, the mysterious light will show up as long as there is lots of sunlight and the weather is good. Usually, 3 or 4 days after Nov 22, is the best time to see the mysterious light. Because at that time, the mysterious light will finally stop between the eyebrows. There is a crystal ball between the eyebrows. With the illumination of mysterious light, colorful light will come out. The move pattern, size and shape varies slightly during these days.
Is It An Artificial Masterpiece Or A Natural Coincidence?
In Buddhism, this peculiar phenomenon is called "Bai Hao Xiang Guang," which has been recorded in history. According to the records of "Two County Records in Tongzhi Dynasty", the Buddha was shining at the top of Sansheng temples. It was a pity that Buddha fell and was taken away by the then authorities in Song Dynasty. Since then, no one ever heard of that again. It is obvious that the mysterious light was recorded long time ago.
However, some experts said that it is only a coincidence. The appearance of the mysterious light should have been formed, to some extent, with the height of the sun and the "glittering hole" of the Sansheng Temples by the coincidence. From the architectural point of view, the design of the three small holes is used to increase the lighting in the temple and has no particular use. However, the mysterious light is apparently related to it because the light spot on the Buddha's face is exactly in line with the sunlight that come through the holes
Whether it is natural coincidence or artificial masterpiece, the mainstream and persuasive point is that the appearance of this phenomenon is related to the sun’s elevation in Nanjing during these few days. It is rare and can only be seen in Thousands of Buddha rock, Qixia Mountain, which make it "supernatural", and gives people more imagination.
