India is set to sign a MoU with Kenya for promoting tourism and improving the tourism relations between the two countries. Shri Vinod Zutshi, Union Tourism Secretary for India said that this agreement will increase marketing activities for benefiting tourism industry in both countries. India would aggressively market its tourism products to Kenya through this agreement and it would also help attracting more Kenyan tourists to India. Shri Zutshi also said that India wishes to hold road shows in cities like Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu for enlightening Kenyans about holiday offers from India. He said that Kenyan tourists visiting India is on the rise and this year, more tourists are expected. He said that India has signed tourism MoU with BRICS member countries including China, Brazil, Russia and South Africa.
India has relaxed visa conditions for Chinese tourists and conducting road shows in Chinese cities for attracting more Chinese tourists. Shri Zutshi added that ad campaigns will be held across major TV channels like CNN and BBC for promoting India throughout the world. He said that India is focusing on its diverse tourism products such as culture, heritage, wildlife and natural beauty to woo more international tourists. The 5th International Tourism Mart was held in Manipur State recently for highlighting tourism potential in North East India. The mart had tourism products from the states of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.
Over 50 tour operators, travel agents and writers from 35 countries including Germany, Italy, Australia, Oman, South Africa, Kenya, Cambodia, Myanmar and Bangladesh, attended the event. The Kenyan Tourist Board (KTB) also held a six-month tourism promotion in India for increasing tourist arrivals by 21%. It was held in leading cities like New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Currently, India is the third best performing market for Kenya after the US and UK.
