NSO Finds 25% Rise in Tourism Figures in First 2 Months of 2017

【Introduction】:The total number of tourists for the month of February 2017 have been calculated at 103,899 and this marks a rise of nearly 27.7% if compared to the corresponding month in the year 2016, as revealed by the recent findings of the NSO.

A total of about 81,706 inbound trips had been carried out for vacationing purposes.

On the other hand, more 14,691 were undertaken for corporate purposes. The inbound travellers from the member states of European Union were up by 30.6% to 90,472 when compared to the corresponding month in 2016. The majority of inbound travellers were aged between 25 and 44. This was followed by the tourists who were within the age bracket of 45 and 64.

The total nights spent increased by about 15.7% when compared to February 2016 and it amounted to 672,727 nights.

The largest share of the guest nights (67.5%) were spent in collective accommodation establishments. The tourist nights in the private accommodation had risen by almost 24.8% when compared to February 2016. Total tourist expenditure was estimated to be around €69.9 million that marks an increase of 20.8% over the same period in the year 2016.

For the initial two months of 2017, the inbound trips reached 207,968 and this represents a rise of nearly 25.4% over the corresponding month in 2016.

The total nights spent by inbound tourists shot up by 13.9%, and this surpassed 1.4 million nights. And, the total tourism expenditure was estimated to be around €140.7 million and the current figure is 14.3% higher than that was recorded in 2016. The total expenditure per capita stood at €677 and this is a decrease of 8.8% when compared to 2016.
