Catalonia Attracted 3 million Foreign Tourists Between January and March

The number of international tourists who had visited Catalonia during the initial trimester of 2017 had increased by 4% in comparison to the same period last year, totaling to about 2,988,238.

This is the reason why Catalonia continues to be the second most popular tourist destination for foreign tourists visiting Spain after the Canary Islands that had welcomed as much as 3,661,246 tourists during the initial three months of 2017. Actually, one out of four global tourists in Spain went to Catalonia.

In the month of March, 1,151,664 tourists from across the globe travelled to Catalonia, about 7% more than in the same month in 2016!

A majority of them, constituting about 22% had come from France. And, nearly 14% had come from other nations in Europe. In the entire region of Spain, the number of foreign tourists who had visited in the first trimester of 2017 had increased by 9.3% as compared to the same period last year, reaching about 12.9 million.

About 10.8 had arrived by plane that represents 11.7% more than in the first trimester of the year 2016.

The travellers who had arrived by sea had increased by 16.1% in comparison to the same period in 2016. And, the number of tourists who had arrived by road between January and March had slumped by 4.7% as compared to the initial three months of 2016.

Catalonia is still the second most preferred tourist destination for global travellers who visit Spain.
